Electrostatic (ESD)

In the event of an explosion hazard, protective measures against electrostatic charging must be taken in accordance with BM Decree 54/2014 (XII.5.) (OTSZ)

Protection against electrostatic charging must be provided in areas, open spaces, explosive atmospheres, explosive atmospheres where explosive substances are produced, processed, used, stored or placed on the market and where electrostatic charging may cause fire or explosion. During design and construction, documented protection measures must be implemented to prevent electrostatic ignition and the electrostatic risk must be determined.

The electrical design and construction shall ensure the provision of electrostatic earthing of adequate safety and quality for anti-static enclosures, electrostatic equipotential bonding in all locations where electrostatic discharge is not permitted.

Protection against electrostatic charging is adequate if the design, installation, operation and maintenance are carried out in accordance with the relevant technical requirement or in a manner offering at least equivalent safety and the protection against electrostatic charging is considered adequate by the inspector following the inspection.

It is also necessary to prevent harmful electrostatic charges and discharges in areas where sensitive electronic equipment is manufactured, used or handled.

Electrostatics
The means of protection may include:
  • antistatic environment (floors, furniture, equipment)
  • installation of earthing systems (built-in earthing, equipotential bonding, other personal/vehicle earthing devices)
  • appropriate clothing

Our company undertakes review, design, expertise and implementation tasks related to ESD phenomena in both general and explosive environments.
